How it works

From confusing letter to clear explanation

WhatDaDoc reads your document and turns it into plain, human language. Here's how it works.

1. Upload your document

Drag a PDF or Word file onto the screen, pick a file or take a photo of the letter with your phone. Screenshots work too.

2. Choose what you need

Decide how detailed the explanation should be and switch on extras: plain language, action points, what to do now, deadlines or a translation.

3. The AI reads along

The document is read and analysed. Only what's actually in it gets explained — nothing is made up.

4. Understand what it says

You get a summary, the key points, warnings and concrete actions. Copy or download the explanation.

Frequently asked questions

What is WhatDaDoc?

WhatDaDoc is an online service that turns complicated letters, contracts and other documents into plain language. You can upload files (PDF, Word), photos, web links or pasted text and receive a summary, action points, deadlines or a translation. When you sign up you get 5 free credits; after that you pay per explanation with no subscription. Uploaded documents are deleted right after analysis and are not kept permanently.

Which files can I upload?

Documents in PDF, DOC, DOCX and TXT up to 3 MB, and photos or screenshots in JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC and HEIF up to 7 MB. A phone photo of a letter works fine: we read the text from the image automatically. You can also paste a web address or paste the text itself into the text box (up to 10,000 characters).

Are my documents kept?

No. Your file is only used during processing and deleted immediately afterwards. We do not store the content.

Is this legal advice?

No. WhatDaDoc helps you understand what a document says, but does not replace legal, financial or medical advice.

Do I need an account?

You create a free account and get 5 free credits straight away. One credit is one explanation, and credits never expire.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. On mobile you can photograph the letter directly and have it explained.

Which languages does WhatDaDoc support?

The app is available in Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish. Your explanation automatically comes in the language you selected in the app.
